The temporary skill shortage (TSS) visa is designed to help employers find workers that they cannot find in Australia. The visa allows workers to work full-time for the employer.
The TSS Visa can be divided into 3 types
Short-term TSS visa applicants may get a visa of up to 2 years. A further 2 years of stay is possible in case of an International Trade Obligation (ITO). Visa holders can travel as many times as they want.
The medium-term visa holders can stay for up to 4 years. This option is used to hire highly skilled workers. Visa holders can apply for permanent residence after 3 years.
This visa option is available to employers who have Labour agreements with the Australian Government.
The Skilled Occupation list of the Department of Home Affairs contains all the eligible occupations. The list can be sorted by short-term and medium-term 482 streams, along with several other streams.
The occupation list changes with labour market requirements. Therefore, there is no guarantee that a job that is in demand today will be in demand in the future as well.
In case of a termination of sponsorship, you will have to find another sponsor or a 482 visa alternative. Note that you will have to leave Australia within 60 days if you don't receive approval for the new sponsorship.
Family members of TSS visa holders can work and/or study in Australia.
Medium-term and short-term visa holders can apply for permanent residency, provided they meet the PR eligibility requirements. However, employers are not required to sponsor TSS workers for PR.
